Last night was horrible. By the time we were sitting in front of our tent having dinner, there was lightning in front and behind us, with thunder rolling in between.
Soon after we got rain. Lots of it, and marble sized hail. It was pretty scary having the hail pound on your tent. I had no idea how well my rainfly would fare. Roadrunner and Autopilot collapsed their tent on themselves a few times to reduce the tension on the outer shell out of fear it might not hold. Near midnight the rain got less and eventually stopped.
Even though we didn't get the best night of sleep, we do need to make up some lost miles today.
We crossed several groups of kids on a summer hiking trip. And rightfully so. The views in Shasta-Trinity national forest were stunning.
Early evening we got more rain and heard thunder in the distance. It didn't last long though and we were able to find a nice spot in the woods to set up camp after the rain stopped. A good 21 miles out of Etna. Perfect to make it for lunch.
